  • Work with borehole logs, geologic, topographic, cadastral and GPS data

  • Developing work plans and costs estimates for environmental site assessments.
  • Planning and organization of logistics for field programs for environmental site assessments (including soil and groundwater assessments) for various projects.
  • Communication with clients and internal personnel as required.
  • Contractor supervision to implement assessment and remediation projects.
  • Compilation and interpretation of the data collected and report writing.
  • Generating recommendations based on the conclusions of environmental site assessments.

#12-01SLS Intermediate Soil and Terrain Specialist

Experience
A minimum of 3-5 years direct experience in soil classification, soil and terrain mapping, implementation of interpretation systems (LCCS, reclamation suitability) and a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree from an accredited institution in Soil Sciences or Environmental Sciences. Relevant previous experience in report writing, soil and terrain field data collection, data interpretation and soil and terrain mapping is required. Vegetation identification, ecosite phase classification, GIS processing experience, and relevant field safety experience (i.e. ground disturbance, hazard identification) are considered assets. The successful candidate must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and be able to work in wilderness conditions and operate an ATV. In addition, the successful applicant will require a valid Class 5 Drivers license.

Job Requirements
The position requires a combination of field and office work (60/40 split) in a demanding consultative environment. This full-time position is available immediately and duties include the following:

  • classification of common Alberta soils to the subgroup level in the field; field interpretation of maps, survey plans and air photos, and the ability to navigate in remote locations;
  • ability to recognize and classify landscape patterns at the field level ;
  • comfortable mentoring junior team members on soil classification and terrain identification;
  • planning and implementation of soil and terrain surveys and field programs;
  • review of soils data collected in the field and classification of soils to the series level using the AGRASID methodology;
  • complete baseline soil and terrain mapping using soft copy mapping (on-screen 3D);
  • compilation, statistical analysis, interpretation and reporting of collected data;
  • detail oriented with solid organizational and time-management skills;
  • work in physically-demanding situations, under adverse weather conditions;

#12-01SS Biophysical Assessment: Summer Student Field Position

Experience
Preferably a 3rd/4th year student majoring in biological/environmental studies or related program with a background (course related or direct experience) in vegetation ecology (plant identification skills and ecosite classification are assets , soil science (including soil classification and soil chemistry) and relevant previous experience in field data collection. The successful candidate must be able to work in wilderness, difficult terrain, and extreme weather conditions. Previous field experience and ability to operate ATV’s is required.   • assistance in the completion of soil classification to the subgroup level for soil surveys ;
  • assistance in the completion of vegetation surveys, including ecosite classification;
  • completion of required data field sheets providing; detailed, accurate and legible information on a consistent basis;
  • interpretation of field maps, survey plans and air photos;
  • utilization of orienteering skills (including compass and GPS) in remote locations;
  • identification of forest, agronomic, and weed vegetation species in the field;
  • data management and data entry using MS access;

GIS and ELC Mapping is required. The ability to work independently and within a team environment and having an exceptional work ethic and the aptitude and skills to work in remote wilderness areas with difficult terrain and extreme weather conditions will also required. As well, the applicant must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

The position requires a combination of field and office work in a demanding consultative environment. This full-time position is available immediately and the position duties include the following:

  • Planning and conducting rare plant/vegetation/wetland field surveys;
  • Accurate identification of forest, agronomic, and weed vegetation species, including rare plants;
  • Interpretation of maps, survey plans and aerial imagery;
  • Navigation (using GPS, maps, aerial imagery and a compass) in remote wilderness locations;
  • ELC (Alberta’s ecosite phase) and wetland classification ;

#12-01ACC01 Intermediate Accountant

Experience
A minimum of 5 to 8 years of combined accounting and payroll experience is required. An accounting or business diploma from an accredited institution would be considered an asset in this role. The Intermediate Accountant is responsible for the preparation and reconciliation of payroll hours and expenses and submission to 3rd party provider, bank reconciliations, preparation of various working paper reconciliations and associated supporting documents, and support and coverage to the accounting team for holidays and time off. Additional duties involve ad hoc reporting as required and backup to the accounting manager for maintenance tasks relates to the accounting systems and oversight of all accounting processes and controls. This position will work with senior client and project managers. Excellent communication skills are required such as the ability to clearly and effectively express information, ideas and opinions through the spoken word to deliver messages that are clearly understood by the intended audience. This is required when having telephone conversations with clients, vendors, and co-workers, and when forwarding messages and other pertinent information through face-to-face communications. Past experience with system conversions and system process testing would be appreciated.

  • Documentation of client requirements and invoicing processes and updating at least 2 times per year.
