Reclaim Forested Sites
MEMS has supported the reclamation of more than 300 forested sites across Alberta and British Columbia over the past decade. This work represents over 363 hectares—equivalent to 896.6 football fields—returned to healthy forested land. In total, approximately 726,000 trees have been planted.
These trees generate an estimated 4,183 tons of oxygen per year and store roughly 1,569 tons of carbon annually, contributing to long-term landscape resilience and improved ecosystem health.
Planting White Spruce helps restore the appropriate forest type for these regions and reduces the presence of non-native species that often dominate disturbed areas.
