Refinery Flare Management
Millennium EMS Solutions Ltd. has been supporting a large refining facility with ongoing flaring assessments since 2013. These assessments vary in scope and context, with the most extensive involving the development of a flare management plan for the facility’s hot commissioning and start‑up phase.
The modelling work included assessments of 10 different non‑routine operating scenarios, many of which involved flaring acid gas with low heating value. Several scenarios required evaluating the routing of separate acid‑gas streams to multiple flares operating concurrently. The study also included an assessment of air‑quality impacts resulting from potential flame “blow‑out,” a condition that may occur when flare tip exit velocities become excessively high.
