Millennium EMS Solutions Ltd. (MEMS) is offering Fort McMurray home owners site specific soil monitoring services aligned with the provincial health guidelines.
Each monitoring program will align with programs conducted by Alberta Health and Alberta Environment and Parks. Analysis will focus on soil and test for a suite of heavy metals, the same as Alberta Health has been testing for, so the results will be comparable. The parameters will include Antimony, Arsenic, Barium, Beryllium, Cadmium, Chromium, Chromium (hexavalent), Cobalt, Copper, Lead, Mercury, Molybdenum, Nickel, Selenium, Silver, Thallium, Tin, Uranium, Vanadium, Zinc; Boron and pH. We believe that testing for these heavy metals will provide information on the level of site contamination. Each area of concern will be sampled by means of a five point composite sample (soil collected from five locations combined in a sample container for a single analysis) intended to represent each area of concern. Results from each composite sample will be compared to health guidelines. MEMS’ Health and Risk experts will then provide a summary that states whether the analyses, “are within applicable health and risk guidelines”, or “exceed applicable health and risk guidelines”. No further recommendation will be provided by MEMS and MEMS will maintain no responsibility to any areas of concern identified as exceeding guidelines.
The scope of work will include sampling of area(s) of concern by MEMS field crew, collection of five point composite samples, submission of samples to laboratory (including laboratory fees for analysis outlined above), review of laboratory results including comparison to applicable health and risk guidelines, and a 1 page letter report identifying whether the sample meets or exceeds the applicable criteria.
The cost for the service is $500 plus GST – total $525.00 – and an additional $250 plus GST for each additional sample per residence. If you are interested, please contact Jesse Howard at [email protected] or Dane McCoy at [email protected]. Once you have reviewed and agreed to the Service Agreement, which will be provided to you upon discussion, and payment in full is received, sampling will commence.
